by Rabeea Tahir Updated on January 27, 2023

From corporate communication to marketing jingles, insurance companies have always been heavy consumers of video. However, with a fast growing market for enterprise video, insurance video use cases have evolved too. Insurance firms now utilize enterprise video for fundamental business functions such as faster and more accurate claims processing, as well as training for insurance agents, inspectors, and investigators.

In our previous blog, we discussed the challenges comtemporary insurance carriers face and how enterprise video streaming resolves them to help insurance companies stay competitive in a rapidly evovling market.

In this blog, we will discuss how VIDIZMO, a Gartner-recognized enterprise video streaming platform, offers a comprehensive solution for insurance carriers to enable end-to-end video streaming, processing, video content management, platform hosting, security, analytics, and platform integration in the company’s existing line of business applications.

Following are some of the features and functionalities of VIDIZMO’s video streaming platform that optimizes its use for the insurance industry:

Multi-channel platform for inter-disciplinary or inter-departmental use: VIDIZMO offers a multi-channel portal where platform administrators can create as many channels as they like for dedicated use within departments across an organization. The channels can be further divided into sub-categories to split subsets of users based on their role, time zone or any other variable. For instance, there could be different channels for departments managing general liability and worker’s compensation insurance, so they have completely segregated users and content on their respective channels. Further, users in the general liability channel could be split into a sub-category based on their time zones, such as three sub-groups for users in eastern, westerns and central time zones or any other category specification that is required. This way, VIDIZMO grants internal organizational units complete control, privacy, and independence to administers their channels as they deem fit.

User synchronization and single sign-on authentication: VIDIZMO utilizes a range of user authentication protocols to provide secure enterprise single sign-on integration, including SAML-P, WS-Federation, Azure Active Directory, ADFS as well as identity providers such as Okta and OneLogin. The user can also be authorized and authenticated from third-party sources like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Office 365, etc. Additionally, for organizations that need to synchronize and map an entire group, organizational unit (OU), or domain in enterprise AD to a specific channel within VIDIZMO, we provide SCIM service through which an entire AD forest domain can be added or removed from a particular VIDIZMO channel. This way, platform administrators can exercise greater control over which user(s) get access to which channel, and centrally configure of all enterprise channels across the board.

User access controls and role-based permissions: VIDIZMO maps all authorized platform users onto specific roles, which are determined based on the level of access granted to the user. By default, VIDIZMO has five broad user roles, namely Administrator, Manager, Contributor, Moderator, and Viewer. The default roles normally fulfill all customer needs but existing roles can be customized, or new roles can be created to suit specific customer needs. Depending on their assigned role, every user gets a set of permissions to perform certain tasks.

For instance, an Administrator has complete control of the application and can access all functions, including media management, user management, channel settings, analytics, control panel, and billing reports. Managers, on the other hand, are channels owners who are authorized to all functionalities within a channel. Moderators have a support function for the managers and Contributors are Viewers with the added capability to upload and edit content, requiring content approval from Moderator+ roles. Additionally, VIDIZMO also allows anonymous viewer role that may or may not have a password requirement for public access. In case of insurance companies, policyholders can be given a Contributor level access so they can upload their videos or other media as evidence for their claims. For details about VIDIZMO roles and permission, see Understanding VIDIZMO User Roles

Automated video transcriptions and editable closed captioning: VIDIZMO provides automated transcription and closed captioning of all spoken words in a video or audio file. It does this by utilizing speech recognition cognitive services such as IBM Watson or Microsoft Azure Media Services, which provides a significant degree (80% or more) of transcription accuracy. Additionally, users have the ability to manually edit the transcript or even crowdsource the editing process so multiple authorized users can edits transcripts on the fly. Transcription of video and audio file not only facilitates viewers (especially ones with hearing disabilities), but also makes video content accessible for multicultural employees with varying language competencies. Moreover, with transcription, the video content becomes indexed, and therefore, easily searchable from within the video library.

Video and digital media capture from all devices and file formats: VIDIZMO provides compatibility with a wide range of standard file formats for video, audio, images, documents, etc. VIDIZMO support media upload from any device, including smartphones, PC, laptops, tablets etc. Media files can be automatically uploaded as single or multiple files. For bulk upload, VIDIZMO utilizes its Publisher Tool to automatically detect and upload any new media to a channel, before automatically encoding it and publishing it in multiple bitrates to support playback on multiple devices, browsers, or bandwidth conditions. VIDIZMO Publisher Tool also does automatic upload from online meeting tools such as Skype for Business, Cisco WebEx, Go-To-Meeting, or even telepresence video conferencing tools like Cisco TelePresence, or Polycom RealPresence. VIDIZMO also enables direct media upload from its Android and iPhone mobile app. For custom content ingestion workflows, VIDIZMO provides a highly robust Upload API. VIDIZMO provides seamless integration with existing content/ case management systems, LMS, CRM and video conferencing tools. Additionally, VIDIZMO supports a range of hardware and software encoding tools, cloud services, and content delivery networks to work with the application. For custom integration, VIDIZMO provides VIDIZMO API, HTML embed code integration, and HTML widgets.

Evidence crowdsourcing portal for site inspectors, customers, or other stakeholders: The variety of roles and access permissions within VIDIZMO make it suitable for evidence crowdsourcing from different stakeholders. For instance, insurance inspectors can fast upload all their videos and other digital media as and when they collect it from various inspection site. Such inspectors can be given Contributor level access or more, so they can upload (and edit) as much content to VIDIZMO as they need. Similarly, policyholders can also be given Contributor-level access to a dedicated channel that could capture, store, and process video content from insured customers who may send video is a variety of different file formats, all of which can be automatically processed by VIDIZMO. Any other stakeholders can also be given different levels of platform access to facilitate evidence management or crowdsourcing from any third-parties.

Audit trails and chain of custody logs for all portal activity: VIDIZMO maintains detailed logs of all user activity in the portal using powerful analytics to record all platform access records and to measure media effectiveness and consumption. VIDIZMO generate a chain of custody containing detailed audit logs of who accessed which evidence file when, shared with whom, etc. Authorized platform administrators can, therefore, track user-level activity and drill down to who watched what, when, and how much. Viewing trends can also be analyzed to gain media effectiveness insights which can be incorporated to improve content quality (especially relevant in case of training and learning videos).

Artificial intelligence cognitive features for object & facial recognition: In affiliation with IBM Watson or Microsoft Azure Media Service, VIDIZMO offers artificial intelligence cognitive features such as object recognition and facial recognition, which could be extremely handy for insurance agents sifting through piles of evidence to identify damages and things of importance to their respective claims. Videos could be analyzed rather quickly with the help of metadata gathered from the available evidence, thus streamlining and speeding up claims processing. Additionally, footage from drones sent for inspection to disaster or emergency sites could also be analyzed more efficiently and with better focus with the availability of object or facial recognition insights.

Seamless content migration to VIDIZMO or from on-prem to cloud/ hybrid scenario: VIDIZMO’s application can be deployed on-premises, in public or private cloud or hybrid model. Once installed, VIDIZMO also enables smooth content migration from on-premises datacenters to the cloud (or vice versa) as well as a hybrid scenario where some aspects of the video streaming infrastructure are retained on-premises while others are moved to the cloud.
